A 36-year-old man from St. Bride's has been arrested following a home invasion in Branch Friday.

The RCMP says at 7:30 that evening a Branch resident was sitting in his living room when he heard someone approach the front door.

The person broke out the window in the front door with an ice chipper.

The resident, fearing for his safety, ran to his garage and left in a vehicle.

The suspect entered the house and did extensive damage to the first level. He then went outside and broke numerous windows.

Prior to leaving, the suspect also broke several windows in a car parked in the driveway.

RCMP police dog services officers were called in to recovered the weapon.

The suspect was arrested within 30 minutes and will appear in court at Harbour Grace this morning.
