Thanks to a community-minded couple, the RCMP arrested an impaired driver last night in Avondale, according to a news release from the police.

While on Route 60 in Avondale, a couple avoided a collision with a suspected impaired driver. The couple saw the suspect park her vehicle and enter a store. They took the keys, which were left in the car, and called the RCMP. They told the driver the police were on their way.

The 64-year-old Harbour Main woman will appear in court in the new year on charges of impaired driving and refusing the breathalyzer.

This is the second time in two weeks citizens have helped the Holyrood RCMP make arrests.

The couple should be charged with theft.
