Clarenville RCMP arrested a man visiting the island from Ontario Saturday morning for allegedly driving with excessive speed on the Trans Canada Highway.
According to a news release, the vehicle was travelling in excess of 190 kilometres per hour near Hillview when Clarenville RCMP located it. It was later spotted in Adeytown.
Police identified the vehicle as a Cadillac Seville.
Police found the male driver near the vehicle shortly thereafter with assistance from police dog services.
Police had received multiple complaints that morning involving a speeding vehicle, with the first one coming from the area of Middle Gull Pond by exit 33 — approximately 125 kilometres from Adeytown.
The matter remains under investigation. Charges under consideration include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation while impaired, and flight from police.
The driver has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear in weekend and statutory holidays court on Sunday.

If you have to speed up to pass, then why bother to pass? Makes no sense to go to 120 just to pass and then go back to 100.
