A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly refusing to stop at a police checkpoint in Conception Bay South.
According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s overnight report, the roadside checkpoint was set up in Long Pond. At approximately 11 p.m., one vehicle reportedly fled from police after officers attempted to stop it at the checkpoint.
A chase ensued, ending on Kenmount Road in St. John’s. The driver was located with help from the K-9 unit after the suspect reportedly exited the vehicle and ran away.
The accused is expected to face charges of flight from police, dangerous driving, two counts of breaching probation, and driving without both a licence and insurance. The accused, who owes $28,000 in fines according to police, is also expected to receive several tickets under the Highway Traffic Act.
He was being held to appear in weekend and statutory holidays court on Sunday.
