Residents of South Brook received an early Christmas present on Monday.

An order in existence since Dec. 17 to avoid using the municipal water supply has been lifted.

On Monday, the Department of Environment and Conservation said lab results of samples taken from the local water supply indicate the water had not been contaminated.

Those concerns came about after a dam at the former Gullbridge mine site was compromised.

The department said residents of the community, which is located near Springdale, can resume using water for drinking, washing, brushing teeth, and making ice.

Perhaps the report should read that the water supply has NOT YET been contaminated. There should be frequent follow-up monitoring at the water supply intake and mapping of the extent of the pollution plume. Heavy metals don't evaporate.

The Government of Newfoundland continues to establish public drinking water system using ponds that are located in Valleys or ponds which are situated at or below sea level that are prone to contamination.

Hey Don II. Can you please give even one single example of a water supply pond that is at or below sea level. I would really like to know what you are talking about.
