Snow, ice pellets, rain on the way for much of the province: Environment Canada

It could be a messy day underfoot on Friday for the St. John’s area.

According to Environment Canada, snow is expected to begin near noon changing to ice pellets, then to rain in the evening.

Snow and ice pellet amounts between five and 10 cm. Rainfall amount 5 mm.

The wind becoming east 20 km/h gusting to 40 in the morning then increasing to 40 gusting to 60 in the afternoon. High plus 1.

Meantime, a wind warning is in effect for the Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity, including the Wreckhouse area.

Winds gusting to 120 km/h are expected in the Wreckhouse area Friday.

Strong winds and snow is expected to develop over southern Newfoundland tonight and will spread northward on Friday.

For the Bonavista and Clareville areas Friday, cloudy with snow beginning near noon. Total amount 10 cm. High minus 1.

For Marystown Friday, cloudy with snow beginning early in the morning then changing to ice pellets then changing to rain late in the afternoon. Snow and ice pellet amount 10 cm. Rainfall amount 10 mm. Wind east 50 km/h gusting to 80 becoming southeast 30 gusting to 50 in the evening. High plus 4.

For Corner Brook on Friday, cloudy with now at times mixed with ice pellets beginning early in the morning. Snow and ice pellet amount possibly more than 10 cm. Wind east 50 km/h gusting to 70 except gusting to 90 along parts of the coast in the morning and afternoon. Wind becoming northeast 30 gusting to 50 in the evening. High minus 1.

For Grand Falls-Windsor Friday, cloudy. Snow beginning near noon. Amount 10 cm. Wind becoming east 20 km/h gusting to 40 in the morning then increasing to 40 gusting to 60 in the afternoon. High minus 1.

For St. Anthony for Friday, cloudy with snow beginning early in the evening. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind becoming east 30 km/h gusting to 50 near noon. High minus 1.

For Labrador City Friday, mainly cloudy with 60 percent chance of flurries. High minus 12.

For Happy Valley-Goose Bay for Friday, increasing cloudiness in the morning. High minus 17.
