The RNC says a Mount Pearl resident helped ensure the safety of a police officer and suspect Thursday evening while the officer was trying to deal with the suspect who was resisting arrest during a traffic stop on Pitts Memorial Highway in the area of Ruth Avenue.

The RNC says the citizen stopped his vehicle and used an emergency flashlight to divert oncoming traffic away from the officer and the male suspect.

The RNC officer had pulled over the suspect on suspicion of impaired driving. The suspect became unco-operative and resisted the officer, leading to a safety concern on the busy highway.

The RNC says the quick thinking of the citizen played a vital role in ensuring the safety of those involved and enabled the officer to effectively proceed with his duties.

Who cares where he's from, he did a good turn in helping a police officer,that's the important thing,not where he's from.

OHHH "FACT CHECKER"... get your facts straight...obviously they interviewed the "resident" to see where he was from.. duh! Obv you don't know how the system works... way to "try" to stir the pot... Jeez!

The RNC reported it was a man from Mount Pearl. If you know that this is incorrect, please contact the RNC and let them know and I'm sure if that detail is wrong they would issue a corrected news release. Until that happens, The Telegram has no reason to question the validity of that detail in the RNC news release. The RNC reported the incident occurred near Ruth Avenue, Mount Pearl.

How do you know it is was Mount Pearl resident who helped out? It seems as if the RNC was not talking to this person to ask for ID. The incident did not even happen in Mount Pearl. The Pitts serve as the boundary between Mount Pearl and St. John's with the actual road being in St. John's and the ditch being in Mount Pearl. If the RNC or The Telegram is making the assumption that the motorist was a Mount Pearl resident, it shows they they do not know their facts. If they are making assumptions based on location, they should have said "St. John's resident" instead or even just "a motorist. While the incident happened near Mount Pearl, remember with the exception of a few kilometers of Paradise on Kemount West, Mount Pearl is completely surrounded by St. John's which is all the more reason for amalgamation.
