Eastern Health is advising the public that the Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre on Bell Island is closed to all family and visitors due to an increase in influenza illness.
The closure remains in effect until further notice.
Outpatient services, such as the emergency department, outpatient clinics, laboratory services, diagnostic imaging and blood collection, will continue as normal.
Immediate family members requiring any further information are asked to call (709) 488-2761.
The public is also reminded not to visit any health care facility if they feel ill or are experiencing flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms.
For infection prevention, the public is advised to wash their hands frequently, cover their coughs or sneezes with a tissue or the crook of their arms and refrain from touching their faces. Finally, those still seeking the flu shot should contact their physician.
It's the third facility under Eastern Health to be closed due to influenza in the past number of days.
