A man who lives in central Newfoundland was arrested in downtown St. John’s overnight Friday for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

Jamie Heath, 25, appeared in weekend and statutory holidays court Saturday morning. The Grand Falls-Windsor man has been charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s overnight report, police were already on George Street at 3 a.m. when a man was reportedly observed causing an incident outside a night club.

Heath was released on an undertaking and is due back in St. John’s provincial court on Jan. 25. As a condition of his release, Heath is prohibited from possessing or consuming alcohol.
