Impaired driving charges laid

A 46-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and possession of a prohibited weapon Sunday morning in St. John’s after an off-duty RNC officer noticed signs of a possible impaired driver on LeMarchant Road.

About 8 a.m., RNC officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle.

The accused was also charged with several breaches of court orders and was held in custody for an appearance in provincial court.

In another incident, about 2 p.m. Sunday, the RNC received a report from a concerned citizen of a possible impaired driver on the Outer Ring Road in St. John’s.

RNC officers located the suspect vehicle in the area of Thorburn Road.

A 65-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and released to appear in court at a later date.
