Two house fires in the St. John’s metro area that happened less than 24 hours apart caused substantial damage as 2012 turned into 2013.

Early Monday morning, fire crews and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary were called to a fire at a home on Chamberlains Road in Conception Bay South.

No other serious fire incidents

The fire reportedly started at 4:30 a.m. Members of the Conception Bay South Fire Department eventually managed to control the blaze. It caused considerable damage to the two-family dwelling.

There were no reports of injuries, and RNC fire investigators remained at the scene Monday morning.

In the early hours of 2013, another house fire occurred, this time in St. Philip’s. The Portugal Cove-

St. Philip’s Volunteer Fire Department and the RNC both responded to the scene of the blaze shortly after 3 a.m.

The residential fire on Broad Cove Road caused significant damage according to the RNC’s overnight report. RNC fire investigators were at the scene Tuesday morning.

A spokeswoman for the RNC was not aware of any further updates pertaining to either fire when contacted by The Telegram early Tuesday evening.

Two other fire-related incidents were reported in the metro area, but neither involved significant damage. The Conception Bay South Fire Department and the RNC responded to a fire at a home in Seal Cove shortly before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. The RNC overnight report described the damage as minor.

Just over an hour later, the

St. John’s Regional Fire Department was called to a reported fire at the Cornwall Manor apartment building on Eric Street. Once there, the incident was found to be a case of smoke in the stairwell area. The overnight report said there was no damage resulting from the event.

Since when are homes located in CBS and St. Philips part of St. John's metro? Are Bay Bulls, Paradise, Topsail, Torbay, etc., part of St. John's metro as well?
