Eastern Health is advising the public that the Hoyles Escasoni Complex in St. John’s and the Placentia Health Centre/Lions Manor Nursing Home in Placentia, have been closed to all visitors due to an increase in influenza illness.

Outpatient services at the Placentia Health Centre, such as the emergency department, outpatient clinics, laboratory services, diagnostic imaging and blood collection, will continue as normal.

At the Placentia Health Centre/Lions Manor Nursing Home, immediate family members are asked to call (709) 227-2061 for further direction on visitation. At the Hoyles Escasoni Complex, immediate family members are asked to call (709) 752-8800 for further direction on visitation.

Eastern Health has also recently closed the Pentecostal Senior Citizens Home in Clarke’s Beach and Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre on Bell Island to family and visitors due to an increase in influenza illness include.

The health authority has also restricted visitation to immediate family members only at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home in St. John’s due to influenza illness and at Saint Luke’s Homes in St. John’s due to gastrointestinal illness.

The public is reminded not to visit any health care facility if they feel ill or are experiencing flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms. For infection prevention, the public is advised to wash their hands frequently, cover their coughs or sneezes with a tissue or the crook of their arms and refrain from touching their faces. Finally, those still seeking the flu shot should contact their physician.

The above restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.

Eastern Health said it apologizes for any inconvenience.
