Eastern Health announced today the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home in Carbonear, Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion and St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, both in St. John’s, are closed to visitors due to an increase in cases of influenza and influenza-like illness.
Family members may contact the sites directly for further direction on visitation. Phone numbers are:

Eastern Health has also recently closed the Pentecostal Senior Citizens Home in Clarke’s Beach, Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre on Bell Island, Placentia Health Centre/Lions Manor Nursing Home in Placentia, and the Hoyles Escasoni Complex in St. John’s to visitors due to an increase in influenza illness.
Additionally, Eastern Health has restricted visitation to immediate family members only at Saint Luke’s Homes in St. John’s due to gastrointestinal illness.
The public is asked not to visit any health care facility if they feel ill or are experiencing flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms.
For infection prevention, the public is advised to wash their hands frequently, cover their coughs or sneezes with a tissue or the crook of their arms and refrain from touching their faces. Finally, those still seeking the flu shot should contact their physician.
The above restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.
