John Quinlan, 31, was arrested by RNC officers around 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Atlantic Place in downtown St. John’s for causing a disturbance.

The RNC says sheriffs officers were allegedly kicked and bitten by the accused, and spit at. The sheriff officers did not suffer any serious injuries.

The incident took place near the probation office on the fifth floor of Atlantic Place. Sheriff officers were called to the fifth floor when the accused allegedly started to cause problems there. Three sheriff officers had to restrain the accused until police arrived.

Additional charges were laid including three counts of assaulting peace officers, and breaches of a court order.
