Federal government employee charged with fraud

The RCMP Commercial Crime Section has charged an employee of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada/Service Canada after an investigation into Employment Insurance fraud.

According to a news release issued by the RCMP, Colleen Esteves, 52 of St. John’s, was charged with one count of fraud over $5,000 and one count of breach of trust.  The offences occurred between  January 2007 and August 2010, during which time it’s alleged about $100,000 was defrauded from the Canadian government.   

Esteves was issued a summons to appear in provincial court in St. John’s on Feb. 5.
