A 29-year-old St. John’s man has been charged with assault, uttering threats, and trespassing following an incident in the centre city area Friday evening.

Christopher Whitten appeared in weekend and statutory holidays court in St. John’s Saturday morning. He was released to appear in court on Feb. 6.

According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s overnight report, police were initially informed of a reported break-in at 10:40 p.m. Police said the suspect fled the scene and was arrested a short while later.

Amongst the conditions of Whitten’s release is an order not to consume or possess alcohol and to refrain from contacting the victim of the alleged assault.
