Twelve-year-old girl charged for assault with a weapon

A 12-year-old girl from Corner Brook remains in police custody on Sunday after being charged for assault with a weapon.

According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, the girl is accused of attempting to assault a woman with a knife. Police were called to a home on Curling Street in Corner Brook shortly before 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The girl was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, breach of an undertaking, and breach of probation.

Police said both the woman and the girl involved in the incident knew one another and that no injuries were sustained.

The youth appeared in weekend and statutory holidays court on Sunday, where she was remanded into police custody. She is scheduled to appear in Youth Court in Corner Brook on Monday at 9:30 a.m.
