Visitor restrictions at Eastern Health facilities relating to the spread of influenza illness have now been extended to several hospitals.

Late Sunday afternoon, the health authority announced that the Health Sciences Centre, St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre — all in St. John’s — all closed to visitors.

An exception is being made for immediate family members, who are also being asked to call those facilities beforehand.

Identical protocols are now in place at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, Carbonear General Hospital and the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin.

Eastern Health also announced Sunday that Golden Heights Manor in Bonavista is restricting visits due to influenza. Immediate family members are being asked to contact the manor if they are planning a visit.

A total of 16 Eastern Health facilities are now restricting visits due to the prevalence of influenza illness or flu-like symptoms.
