Little Bay Islands-Long Island ferry to get repairs

One of the province’s newest ferries is going in for a refit that will fix damage caused by striking the dock during extreme sea conditions.

The MV Hazel McIsaac had temporary repairs, but those will be corrected during the annual refit currently under a tender call.

The repairs are for a damaged section of hull plating in the starboard bow and the port stern.

According to the Department of Transportation and Works, every ferry undergoes an annual refit, regardless of age.

The two newest ferries — the Hazel McIsaac and MV Grace Sparkes — were built at the Kiewit facility in Marystown, at a cost of $27.5 million each.

The Hazel McIsaac has been serving the Little Bay Islands-Long Island run.
