Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising customers in Nain of a scheduled power outage on Tuesday, Jan. 8 from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. The outage is required to complete permanent repairs to one of the generating units at the diesel plant.

The following customers will be affected by the outage:

• All customers on Ikpiaivk St., Tukuk St., Pinguvik St.;

• Middle Path Rd. (odd numbers 1-87 & even numbers 2-88);

• Ikajuktavik Rd. (odd numbers 1-33 & even numbers 2-28).

On Saturday, Jan. 5, customers in Nain experienced a 10-hour outage as a result of an issue with one of the sensors in the generating unit. Crews completed temporary repairs to the unit to restore power to customers on Saturday evening.

By 8 p.m. Saturday, power was restored for the 450 Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro customers affected by the outage. Additional workers from Happy Valley-Goose Bay remained in Nain as of Sunday to handle the repairs.The scheduled outage is needed to complete permanent repairs.

One of the three generating units at the Nain diesel plant has been out of service since late December due to engine failure. A new engine has been ordered and this unit is expected to be restored by mid-February. Hydro continues to encourage customers in Nain to limit their electricity use where possible to help lessen the generation demand on the available generating units. When repairs are complete on the third unit, spare generation capacity will be restored.

    Because Nalcor is starting to have an unreliable electrical system, this company is starting to sound like Nova Scotia Power and Emera whom have a history of power outages for foolish excuses like sea salt, squirrels, and crows. Therefore, Nalcor = Emera.
