Burin Peninsula district RCMP are investigating several break and entries reported in the past couple of weeks.

According to police, thieves are targeting residences where it appears the owners are away, entering the residences and searching for items of value.

Several victims had jewelry and/or cash stolen.

The RCMP says the same person or persons could be responsible and the police are asking for the public’s assistance.

The RCMP is also reminding residents who plan to be away from their homes to make it appear as though someone is home, such as keeping a light on and alternating lights that are left on, having someone clear snow while you’re away and having someone check your residence on a regular basis.

If anyone has any information regarding these or any other crimes, the RCMP is asking that they contact the Marystown detachment at 709-279-3001, 1-800-709-RCMP or Crimestoppers at 1800-222-TIPS.
