The Telegram website offers only a sample of the stories our reporters, editors and photographers work hard to get to the public every day.

Thursday’s full edition of The Telegram, on the other hand, contains much, much more, from news to opinion to our expanded Community section.

•  The Christmas spirit was evident amongst a group of students at Swift Current Academy on the Burin Peninsula who pooled their resources to help the victim of a Boxing Day mugging incident in St. John’s.

Aaron Bailey, 17, was walking with a friend in St. John’s on Boxing Day while wearing a brand new winter coat that was a Christmas gift from his dad. He was approached and given two options — give them the coat “…or you get stabbed.”

• The snow plows and salt are ready to go. With 40-60 centimetres forecasted to hit the capital city area Thursday and Friday, public works officials with the cities of St. John’s and Mount Pearl are looking for the public’s help in clearing the streets.

• Petroleum Research Newfoundland and Labrador has decided to look into the idea of a new Arctic and cold climate oil spill research facility, based in this province. It is not a commitment to build, but a request for proposals for a market study. It is a baby step — one sure to get the suggestion circulating amongst local oil and gas industry companies.
