Concerns over the spread of influenza and influenza-like illness has forced Eastern Health to restrict visits at another long-term care facility.

Blue Crest Nursing Home is the latest facility to implement such restrictions. The Grand Bank long-term care facility is only allowing immediate family members to visit as of Saturday morning.

In a news release, the regional health authority said those family members should contact the nursing home if they plan to visit a resident.

Blue Crest Nursing Home is one of 18 Eastern Health facilities dealing with visitor restrictions in light of an increase in influenza illness. The most recent site to implement such restrictions prior to the Grand Bank nursing home was the Waterford Hospital in St. John’s, which is also limiting visits to family members only.

All restrictions are in effect until further notice, according to the health authority.

Eastern Health continues to advise the public to avoid visiting health care facilities if they feel ill or are experiencing flu-like symptoms or gastrointestinal symptoms.
