Between 300 and 400 Newfoundland Power customers remain without electricity as of Sunday afternoon following a lengthy snowstorm that started Thursday evening.
According to company spokeswoman Michele Coughlan, those individual cases are primarily located in the St. John’s metro area.
With the remaining outages, power can be restored to between five and 10 customers at a time.
“It’s not like when you’re able to restore a major feeder and you’re getting thousands of customers back at a time,” said Coughlan.
Approximately 30 crews are working Sunday to restore power.
There were 800 customers without power to start the day, and Coughlan said the remaining customers experiencing outages should have power restored by early Sunday evening, barring unforeseen issues.
Meanwhile, the airfield at St. John’s International Airport reopened at midnight Sunday. It had been closed since Thursday evening because of the storm and snowfall accumulation exceeding 50 centimetres.
A spokeswoman for the airport authority said passengers impacted by the storm should check with their airline, as additional departures are scheduled for Sunday and larger planes are in use.
