The RNC in Corner Brook has charged a 24-year-old man as a result of an ongoing hit and run investigation, it was announced today.
On Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, about 4 a.m., RNC officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of St. Mark’s Avenue and the Lewin Parkway. It was reported that a Dodge pickup had been driving on the Lewin Parkway when a vehicle, a 2002 gray-coloured Honda Civic, proceeded through the intersection from St. Mark’s Avenue and hit the side of the pickup causing extensive damages.
The driver of the car stopped for a short period and drove away prior to police arrival without providing his personal and vehicle information to the other driver.
The description of the male driver and licence plate number of the run vehicle was obtained and provided to police by the driver of the pickup. The run vehicle was described to have no front bumper and extensive front-area damage as a result of the collision. Later in the day, the suspect vehicle was located by the RCMP in the town of Massey Drive. The vehicle was parked and unattended.
This vehicle was seized by RNC Patrol Services for further investigation. On Sunday, the driver of the suspect vehicle was located. He was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while suspended, operating an unregistered vehicle, operating a vehicle without a valid insurance policy in effect, failure to transfer ownership of a vehicle and failing to remain at an accident scene.
