A 41-year-old man was arrested about 5 p.m. Tuesday for illegal driving on Blackmarsh Road West in St. John’s.

When RNC officers stopped the vehicle, they found the accused had a suspended licence, no insurance and owed $11,000 in outstanding fines.

He was held in custody for court today and the vehicle was impounded.

When are they going to start keeping these idiots in jail to pay off their fines instead of letting them back out on the streets to accumulate more! Back in the 70's that's how it was. For example, your sentence was $100.00 or 30 days. I bet it wouldn't take long for them to reconsider their driving habits if it resulted in jail time. Also, some of them might even PAY up rather than go to jail. Just a thought, judges.

How much of this province's "working capital" needs is tied up in unpaid fines? Perhaps Marshall could get his forecasts even more worng than he did last year and we still would have been okay.....if we just bothered to collect the loot owed by Newfoundland's crooks and idiots who AREN'T in government.
