The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is offering safety tips to help people protect themselves when socializing.
The RNC, in a news release today, listed various effects people may experience after ingesting a drug associated with “drug-facilitated sexual assaults.”
These signs and symptoms may include but are not limited to the following:
• Nausea or vomiting;
• Confusion or disorientation;
• Difficulty remembering or loss of consciousness;
• Impaired motor function;
• Slurred speech or difficulty speaking;
• Possible dizziness or problems seeing.
The RNC encourages females and males to be aware of their surroundings when socializing and recommends, when in a social
setting, you should:
• Socialize with trusted friends and stay together;
• Watch your drink being made and do not leave it unattended;
• Don't accept drinks from other people;
• Don't share drinks;
• Don't drink from punch bowls or other common, open containers;
• If someone offers to get you a drink from a bar or at a party, go with the person to order your drink. Watch the drink being poured and carry it yourself;
• If you feel more intoxicated than expected seek medical assistance immediately and also contact the police.
The RNC says it’s committed to public safety and takes all reports of such incidents involving drug-facilitated sexual assaults very seriously.
The RNC encourages anyone who feels they may have been drugged to obtain medical attention immediately and to contact police.
