Western Health is advising that visitation restrictions on the fourth floor (Partridgeberry Place) of the Corner Brook long-term care home have been lifted.

The restrictions were put in place due to influenza-like illness among some residents at the facility.

Western Health says visitation restrictions are still in place on Units 3A and 3B of Western Memorial Regional Hospital.

Due to the high incidence of influenza circulating in our communities, the health authority says anyone who has influenza-like symptoms including cough, fever, runny nose, and headache are asked not to visit any health facilities.

People with any of these symptoms should rest at home, drink fluids, practice proper hand washing with water and soap and, if the symptoms persist, contact their physician. To prevent the spread of infection, Western Health is asking the public to wash/sanitize your hands when you enter or leave any facility.

The public is also reminded that it is not too late to receive a flu shot. Vaccinations for influenza are still available through physicians and community health nurses throughout the region. The next Community Health walk-in clinic for vaccinations at 347 O’Connell Drive in Corner Brook is Feb. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m.

People are advised to contact their physician or community health nurse for more information about whether they meet the criteria to receive an immunization or to schedule an appointment for a vaccination.

Western Health says it would like to thank families and visitors for their co-operation during temporary visitation restrictions.
