SAINT JOHN, N.B. — A former city councillor in Saint John, N.B., who is facing child pornography and sexual touching charges has waived his right to a bail hearing.

Donnie Snook is facing eight charges including sexual interference with a child under 16, possession of child pornography and making child pornography.

He appeared in a Saint John court this morning and is expected to return to court for election and pleas on March 11.

Snook is a former Salvation Army officer who served in Newfoundland.

Snook was arrested at his home on Jan. 9 and resigned from his council seat last week.

Police say investigators are trying to identify alleged victims in computer images that were seized after carrying out a search at Snook’s home in the city’s east end.

Snook was elected in 2008 and has been involved in community organizations including the Inner City Youth Ministry, which provides sports programs, mentoring and lunches at three local schools.

    i dont understand i have known donnie since i was 4 yrs old i m now 22 and a half and i dont remember him ever hurting me, i looked up to the man was even going to ask him to be the god father of my daughter and unborn baby, i m glad i didnt. i dont no how someone with such power could hide it for so long. i new him so well and i never thought he would or could ever do something like this. all the memmories i have with him r good, but then again i dont remember my childhood. donnie gave me a childhood that was happy i dont no how he could do that and then go and ruin a child's childhood it hurts me so muich and sickens me so much i didnt believe it at first and to be honest i still find it very hard to believe, i just hope he gets the help he needs

    Hey, CRISTA, nobody's saying crimes of this nature are only committed by Priests and Christian Brothers. It's the outcry and RC bashing that goes on that leaves the public with that impression, whenever the perv is a Priest or Christian Brother. People with their smug attitudes and finger pointing should realize that they also have their fair share of pervs in their own religious denominations.

    This guy has been charged , o.k. . My question is why is when someone is charged with a crime such as this their picture and video is plastered all over the place but those who are involved in crime involving drugs or theft never have their identity revealed by the media or have their faces covered when going to court . I saying that he is or isn't guilty but but what if he is innocent what does the media do ? Say "sorry guy ", lets move to the next one " , have a nice life what's left of it " . just wondering .

    What do the RC bashers have to say about this ?. Nothing, no doubt, seeing that the charges are not against a priest or christian brother. They're oblivious to the fact that all other religious denominations also have their fair share of pervs

      Yes...good for YOU Todd Chafe, and anyone else who genuinely struggles to survive and eek out a living in today's fishery. But shame, shame, SHAME on the CCPFH and any other propogandists / reality revisionists whose hobby or goal it is to recruit and mislead anyone into choosing such a terrible career choice under completely false, romaniticized BS. That is simply unconscionably evil....and someone deserves a punch in the nose.
