RALLYING THE TROOPS — Newfoundland and Labrador Liberal Leader Dwight Ball addressed the party faithful during the Liberal Annual General Meeting held in Gander last weekend. Mr. Ball said the time has come for the Liberal party to focus on renewal, rejuvenation and taking back control of the provincial government.
Opposition Leader Dwight Ball says it’s time for a status update on a long-term plan for the Kruger mill in Corner Brook.
"It's been almost a year since we first heard of a commitment from government to explore the possibility of a long-term plan for the viability of the mill," Ball said in a news release.
"Now we have workers looking at other opportunities unless they receive assurances that the mill will still provide long-term jobs."
Ball said workers at the Kruger mill threw the company a life line five months ago, agreeing to concessions and pension changes in order to keep the mill running. There has been no similar action on the part of the provincial government to show confidence in the future of the mill and the entire region.
