Three more Red Cross volunteers from the Atlantic provinces have gone to New York to help the American Red Cross in aiding thousands of people displaced from their homes due to destruction or damage from Superstorm Sandy 12 weeks ago.

A news release states that Doreen St. Croix of St. John's and Ethel Paul of Burin, along with Geoff Moon from Saint John, New Brunswick, are among the latest group of 20 Red Cross volunteers from across Canada sent to the ongoing relief operation.

All three left for New York City on Sunday.

In New York and New Jersey, which bore the brunt of hurricane and storm-surge damage, thousands of people remain in motels and other transitional lodging because their houses or apartments were destroyed or are still unliveable due to structural, electrical, plumbing, heating, gas line, moisture and mold or other damage.

To date, the Canadian Red Cross has sent close to 100 volunteers and staff, 14 of whom have come from the Atlantic provinces, to support the Hurricane Sandy relief in the northeast U.S.

Canadians wishing to financially support this or any other Red Cross relief effort can do so online at redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111.
