Three people have been arrested for staging a robbery in connection with a reported armed robbery at Chase's Diner in Marystown on Sept. 17.

A 26-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman are facing charges.

A Marystown RCMP investigation determined there was no actual robbery and the incident had been staged as a robbery in an attempt to deflect blame for the theft of approximately $5,000 from the business.

The 26-year-old man is facing a charge of theft over $5,000. The 19-year-old woman is facing a charge of public mischief in addition to a theft charge.

The 20-year-old woman is facing a charge of being in possession of money obtained from crime.

All three have been released from custody to appear in provincial court at Grand Bank on April 17.
