UPDATE: RNC says sudden death not suspicious

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says it has determined a sudden death in the west end of St. John’s Wednesday was not suspicious.

The RNC said in a release its Criminal Investigation Division has identified the deceased person and an investigation is ongoing.

The scene has been released and the RNC is providing assistance to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to help establish

the cause of death.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating a sudden death in St. John’s Wednesday.

The RNC said patrol members responded to a call in the west end of the city around 6:30 p.m. involving the sudden death of a 59-year-old man.  

Members of the RNC’s Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Section were on scene. The circumstances of the death is still being investigated.

Around 8 p.m., patrol members conducted a traffic stop in Conception Bay South which resulted in a 54-year-old man being charged with driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit and impaired driving.

He was released from custody until a court appearance.
