Kevin Charles Roberts was found not guilty of arson and court breaches today at Newfoundland Supreme Court in St. John’s in connection with a fire at a two-apartment house on Blackmarsh Road in the city in June 2011.
Justice James Adams had concluded fire investigators did not follow proper guidelines in determining the cause of the fire.
Witnesses' memories were also inconsistent, Adams said.
Roberts, 30, is presently in custody and will remain inside until late next month. He is serving a jail term for driving-related offences from last year.
Roberts had been accused of intentionally starting the fire June 5, 2011, that destroyed the house at 32 Blackmarsh Rd. in which he had lived with his girlfriend.
