The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit has arrested and charged a 23-year-old man in connection with an assault with a weapon in the downtown St. John’s area on Jan. 13.
The man has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released to appear in court at a later date.
The RNC said patrol officers, Forensic Identification Services and the Criminal Investigation Division members responded to a call of an assault with a weapon in the area of Water Street and Adelaide Street around 2:54 a.m., Jan. 13.
Police say a 41-year-old man and 23-year-old man entered into an altercation, which escalated. One man received minor injuries while the second man received injuries that appeared to be stab wounds.
Both men were conveyed to hospital and treated for what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
