The RCMP have released additional details concerning the arrest of a man for impaired driving after the taxi cab he was driving went off the road in Port Rexton.

Bonavista District RCMP was called to the main road in Port Rexton — Route 230 — at 8 p.m. Saturday.

The man was transported to the RCMP station in Clarenville, where he remained until he was released Sunday. The 57-year-old is due to appear in provincial court next month.

Police would not name the taxi company involved in the incident, though Const. Roy Chappell of Clarenville District RCMP confirmed it came from the Avalon Peninsula.

Charges of impaired driving and impaired driving while exceeding the legal blood-alcohol limit are pending, according to police.

(Earlier story)

A 33-year-old man was charged with flight from police and impaired operation of a snowmobile early Saturday morning in Clarenville.

The Clarenville-Bonavista district of the RCMP say the man attempted to evade police on the snowmobile but was apprehended a short time later.

Charges of refusing a breath sample and two charges under the All Terrain Vehicle/Motorized Snow Vehicle Act were also laid against the man.

In another incident, near the community of Port Rexton later on Saturday, a 57-year-old man was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The RCMP says the man was operating a taxi from outside the area when the vehicle went off the road.

Charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle over the legal limit are pending.
