A missing hunter from Nain was located about 10 p.m. Sunday in an incoherent, exhausted and hypothermic state, the RCMP says.
The hunter was taken to the Nain medical clinic for treatment.
About 5 p.m. Sunday, the RCMP in Nain received a call from a member of the community stating that their father had gone hunting at 10 a.m. and had not returned.
The RCMP immediately activated the Nain Search and Rescue Team. In addition, immediate and extended family members started their own extensive search.
Two separate search parties were dispatched and the missing hunter was located at 10 p.m.
Nain RCMP thanks the response from immediate and extended family members for their rapid and extensive self-generated search, and to the rapid and experienced response of the Nain Volunteer Search and Rescue Team.
The RCMP would like to remind local winter hunters and travellers to prepare for emergencies and to take the time to advise family members and friends of intended routes of travel, and approximate arrival time home.
It is also necessary to dress for the extreme conditions and to take provisions such as a satellite phone, GPS, emergency beacon, extra food, clothing and liquids.
