A 65-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level above the legal limit early this morning following a vehicle collision on Cabot Street in St. John's.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the accident occurred around 1:48 a.m. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene on foot. According to the RNC, there were no injuries reported.

Police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information that may assist in this investigation to contact the RNC or Crime Stoppers.

Also, around 10:20 p.m., RNC officers conducted a traffic safety stop on Portugal Cove Road in St. John’s.

As a result of that stop a man was issued tickets for a false plate, unregistered vehicle, driver not wearing a seatbelt and no insurance on the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded.
