Wind and rainfall warnings remain in effect for much of the west and south coasts of the province.
Environment Canada also advises the rainfall will cause significant snow melt over the region which could result in local flooding.
For the Channel-Port aux Basques and Wreckhouse areas, and south coast areas, rainfall accumulations of 40 to 70 millimetres are expected by early Friday morning.
An intensifying low pressure system over southern Quebec will track northeastward to lie off the north Labrador coast by Friday morning. A warm front associated with this system tracked across Newfoundland overnight, bringing with it significant wind and rain for southwestern Newfoundland.

Large waves and pounding surf are expected to develop this evening along the west coast of Newfoundland and persist overnight. These waves have the potential to produce minor coastal flooding during the overnight high tide.
