No decision yet on whether to allow nighttime helicopter flights offshore

Offshore operators have submitted additional information to the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (CNLOPB) in support of a call to return to nighttime helicopter flights to and from the offshore, when needed.

The new information was submitted in response to a request from the CNLOPB.

The 77-page submission was been posted to the CNLOPB website this afternoon.

A statement issued by the board says no decision has been made yet by the regulator on night flights.

Just last week the provincial and federal governments named two new members to the regulatory board. The Telegram was told the new members would be brought up to speed on pressing matters, including night flights, over the next couple of weeks.

More to come.

The CNLOPB should not even consider this until all the Wells Inquiry recommendations are complete.
