Man charged with animal neglect

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has charged a 31-year-old man with breaching the Animal Health and Protection Act as a result of an earlier seizure of two dogs.

On Jan. 25, around 11:20 p.m., police responded with the SPCA to a report of animal neglect on Thorburn Road in St. Philips. Police said two beagle dogs appeared to be malnourished and there was inadequate food, water and shelter for them. The dogs were seized from the property and taken to the St. Johns Veterinary hospital where they were treated.

The man was charged Thursday and released to appear in court.

The RNC also responded Thursday to a three-vehicle collision on Bay Bulls road, near Ruby Line. Two vehicles were towed from the scene, At least one person was conveyed to hospital. The RNC says the matter is still under investigation.

One male inmate at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary was charged Thursday with uttering threats and common assault after an incident with prison guards.  He was given an apperance notice to appear in court in February

Officers also responded to Farrell Drive to a call of assault and mischief to a vehicle. A 33-year-old woman was taken into custody and held for court this morning to answer to charges of assault, and mischief to property.

    It is about time that people started getting charge with animal neglect. People keep making those phone calls. Soon enough the law will get tired of these losers and start giving jail time instead of a slap on the wrist. It is up to us as humans to protect the ones who can't protect themselves.
