The Telegram website offers only a sample of the stories our reporters, editors and photographers work hard to get to the public every day.

Monday’s full edition of The Telegram, on the other hand, contains much, much more, from news to opinion to our expanded Sports section.

• When people hear the word “cancer” they understandably  get concerned, probably even down right scared. But misconceptions about the treatment for the disease often give people comparable distress. Today is world cancer day and as part of the ongoing awareness campaign, people and organizations around the world are working to dispel myths about the disease and its treatments.

That’s the goal of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre in St. John’s. It’s the only facility in the province that provides radiation treatment. And that word, radiation, can be a scary one.

• On Jan. 24, The Telegram brought you the story of Darcy Ward, fierce “Price is Right” follower and lucky contestant on the famous game show during a December taping. Our story ended with Ward being the closest bidder without going over the actual retail price and running up on stage to meet host of the “The Price is Right”, Drew Carey. Because the episode hadn’t aired yet, we had to end it there. Ward was sworn to secrecy about the details of the show, claiming at the time that even his girlfriend didn’t know the truth about how he did.

• Reporter Barb Sweet continues special report into the state of the province’s churches. —  It’s a January Monday morning at Gower Street United Church and John Evans drops by to check on the collection tally. “Not a good Sunday,” the finance committee chairman remarked to those counting the coffers — a regular Monday routine. A few days later, he told The Telegram that’s not unusual for a Sunday early in the New Year, following the busy Christmas season, when pews are filled.
