Man charged after gun fired near pond where people were icefishing

About 6:30 a.m. Sunday, RCMP in Grand Falls-Windsor arrested a 52-year-old man after receiving reports of someone shooting a firearm outside a residence in the area of Peter’s Pond on the Botwood Highway.

There were a number of people gathered at the pond to icefish at the time.

The accused if facing a charge of careless use of a firearm.

A search of the man’s home also resulted in a number of firearms seized, and another charge of unsafe storage of a firearm.

The accused appeared in provincial court to answer to the charges. He was released from custody on conditions and is to appear in court again March 13.
