Today's high winds have damaged Discovery Collegiate High School in Bonavista.

A large section of the canopy area over the main entrance has fallen, blocking the entrance.

The Bonavista Volunteer Fire Department is on the scene.

A spokesman for Eastern School District said there was damage to the canopy over the main entrance.

There were no injuries.

School will be closed for the morning Tuesday while the extent of the damage is assessed.

According to Environment Canada, which has wind warnings in effect for much of the province, strong winds gusting to 100 km/h or higher are expected across all of Newfoundland.

For Bonavista, rain at times heavy. Amount 15 to 25 mm. Fog patches. Wind southeast 50 km/h gusting to 70 except gusting to 110 along parts of the coast. High 6.
