RNC investigating armed robbery

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating an armed robbery early this morning at an Ultramar gas station on Freshwater Road in St. John’s.

According to police, the robbery was reported around 2:30 a.m. The store clerk did not sustain any injuries.

Police say a male suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene.

He's  described as being between 5’5” and 5’6”, medium build, wearing a black winter jacket, black track pants with a white or gray stripe, white sneakers, and white and blue gloves. The man carried what appeared to be a handgun at the time of the offence.

The RNC K-9 unit was called to the scene, as well as  RNC Forensic Identification and Criminal Investigation Division officers.

The RNC General Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate this robbery and is seeking the assistance of the general public in identifying the individual responsible. Anyone who has information that would assist in identifying the person responsible or anyone that may have any information in relation to this crime is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). People can also provide information anonymously on the N.L. Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.

Meanwhile, on Monday, RNC officers arrested a 20-year-old woman for assaulting a corrections officer and breach of a court order. The woman was released to appear in court at a later date.

And, around 3 p.m. Monday, RNC officers responded to a business on Merrymeeting Road in St. John’s and arrested a 55- year-old man for theft and breach of a court order. He was detained until a court appearance today.

Around 8:30 p.m. Monday, RNC patrol officers responded to a domestic disturbance in a home in the downtown area of St. John's.  Police arrested a 41- year-old manfor one count of assault and one count of uttering threats.  Police say a female victim did not sustain any injuries and the male was detained for court in the morning.
