These power outages should get more attention. Muskrat Falls power is coming to St john's via the Northern Peninsula. I worked as an engineer for Nfld hydro in the70s. That region was always very probabmatic due to salt driven by high winds that causes flashovers on the transmission lines. So I could see it would be a problem for the new Muskrat Falls line. However in the MHI report, on Nalcor advise it seems, it said the risk to outages was similar to existing 230kv lines, and that "salt was not therefore a contaminant". The problem is that our 230 kv lines are generally inland with little risk to salt. Not so on the Northern Peninsula. Is this a major blunder? Nalcor should address this. The media should request a clarification, as those problems could be St john's problems in the future.

The sad thing about all of this is that: . the town of St. Lunaire-Griquet does not have any back up power fo keep its water and fire fighting supply going . the town did not open a Comfort Centre. The school that the Western School Board wanst to close would make an ideal Emergency Centre . listened to the Mayor on Radio Noon today. A previous interviewee called for a State of Emergency (SOE). The Mayor said, with a lots of noise in the background (it would appear the someone was coaching him or directing him how to respond to the interviewer) that he would have to speak to the province about calling a SOE. A Mayor has all the power to call a SOE on their own. It is clearly written in the Municpalities Act 1999. The Town Clerk should know this. . does the town have an Emergency Plan? Just like Hurriican Igor, I got the impression from the interview that the Mayor was over his head.

The Government and the power companies expect us to keep warm by jumping for joy over Muskrat Falls! No competition = no service, slapdash repairs...if any. Welcome to the province of Nalcor-Land and Nalcor-Ador.

Am I the only one commenting on this disaster? Harumph. I guess if there was a Costco on the Northern Peninsula with a power outage, it would have gotten more attention? Hydro: FIX the problem. Province-wide!!!
