The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary charged a man with impaired driving early this morning after a vehicle crashed through the fence at Government House on Military Road in St. John's around 12:15 a.m.
According to police, there were no injuries reported and damage to the fence was not extensive. However, the RNC said upon arrival by officers, the driver fled the scene on foot.
The RNC K-9 unit responded and the suspect was arrested several blocks from the scene. The man is to appear in court at a later date.
Also, around 6 a.m. this morning, RNC responded to a break-in at Breakwater Pharmacy in Portugal Cove.
Police say entry was gained by breaking a front glass window.
There has been no arrest yet, but the RNC Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and forensic services are continuing the investigation.
Meanwhile, around 7 p.m. Tuesday, RNC patrol members and CID officers arrested a man for possession of a stolen vehicle.
The vehicle was observed by CID members being operated in the area of Mount Carson Avenue.
The RNC stopped the vehicle, but when officers approached it, the driver fled in the vehicle, striking an unmarked police vehicle in the process. Within a short distance, RNC officers were able to box the vehicle in. A woman and man were detained at the scene, but then police say the driver fled the area on foot. The RNC said there were passengers in the stolen vehicle.
The K-9 unit responded an adult male was located and arrested. He was subsequently charged with assault with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous driving and malicious damage. The man was detained in custody until a court appearance.
