Keith Hutchings, provincial minister responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, has opened the nomination process for the 2013 URock Volunteer Awards.
“Newfoundland and Labrador is home to many passionate, enthusiastic and innovative youth,” Hutchings said in a news release today. “They are driving positive change, championing charitable causes, and mobilizing and encouraging other youth to become involved. These awards were established to say thank you for their leadership and commitment to their community and province.”
Nominations for the URock Volunteer Awards can be made in two categories – individuals 30 years of age or under who have made outstanding voluntary contributions without reward or gain and youth-led non-profit organizations that have made a significant contribution for the betterment of others.
Up to eight awards will be presented at the awards ceremony, which will include live performances by local rock bands. Each award recipient will receive a customized electric guitar.
“By celebrating the achievements of young leaders, we hope to inspire others to volunteer and contribute to the future growth and development of their communities and province,” said Hutchings. “I encourage individuals in all regions of Newfoundland and Labrador to nominate a deserving youth or youth-led organization for these awards.”
