RCMP officer arrested for child luring over the internet

A member of the RCMP has been arrested for child luring over the internet.

 The male officer from the Labrador district was arrested on Friday and made his first appearance in court Saturday morning. He was remanded for a bail hearing until Monday in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. A publication ban has been imposed.

In a press release issued late Saturday, they also say the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is taking the lead in the investigation and have directed all inquiries about the case to the RNC Media Relations Unit.

More details will be provided as they become available.

    Innocent until proven guilty. But if this is indeed a real case of child luring - and not a good cop being set up - I say congratulations to the RCMP for not being afraid to make one of their own accountable. More bad cops need to be weeded out. Innocent until proven guilty, though. We have to remember that.

    This is just police officer, don't paint the rest with the same brush. Yes this is very disturbing and not proven in court as of yet. But I for one will continue inform my child if he is in trouble call or go to the nearest police station or police officer. That if me or his mom was not readily available.

    Newfgoundland is a rather unique place.....RCMP officers up on sex charges, lawyers up on drunk driving charges, bank managers up on theft charges, clergy up on sex charges, accountants up on embezzlement charges, pharmacists up on trafficking charges ....I've never heard of a place where such a high proportion of the "professional" class are nothing more than skeets and guttersnipes. (Note: Politicians were caught with the "fridge magnet" scam, but they put an end to that pretty quick....getting caught, I mean.)

    I understand one is innocent until proven guilty. I also understand that sexual charges carry alot of stigma and also alot of embarassment for the accused family members etc...It has been said by a lawyer I heard long ago that sexual charges against all people should not have their names published unless found guilty after the trial. However, we are not at that point in our society so the officer should be fair game like anyone else. Usually publication bans are to protect any victims. I cannot see in this case how that works. Publishing the officers name will not reveal any victim name. This is simply a case of the justice system watching out for one of it's own. In 1997, in a court in Whitbourne NL, I observed a 9 day trial of a man accused of sexual assault. The case was full of lies, very sloppy RCMP investigation etc...and even one witness who started the fiasco never showed up in court even though she had a summons to show up for the trial!! It took that man 4 yrs to get his case to the Supreme Court of NL where he was fully exonerated and the Supreme Court dumbfounded as to why this case was ever proceeded in a lower court! If such a case can go through court and the man's name published, why can't this RCMP have his name published?!

    Why is HE being protected? Release his name and picture, because, as Judy posts.....it throws doubt and distrust towards all.

    People, especially young innocent children, cannot even now trust the very ones who deliberately choose a profession to protect its citizens. A few throws doubt to all.

    So where is his name and photo? If anyone else in Canada did this their name and photo would be all over the news. RCMP does it, not so much.

    This is just the tip of the iceberg. The reason it has been going on so long is the people in a position of power are involved. These are the ones they need to go after first. This is the worst criminal offence and yet the sentences are so inadequate. People who know this is happening and do nothing about it are the worst kind of human, being knowing that children are being terrorized. If I had someone like Vic Toews who is supposed to protect me as a child I'd be very worried.

    In those we are suppose to absolutely trust, now we have to be cautious. I had to gradually inform my young children about clergy; now how do I tell them not to trust "our protecters in uniform"? I always told them that if they were being bullied or in a fight, etc., don't hesitate to go to an Officer.

    OMG ......and we tell our children to trust the police.....is it safe anymore...glad this RCMP person got caught......this makes it look bad for the rest of the officers....

    Sad that this happens to those that we need to trust BUT lets remember that he was caught and will be prosecuted by Police Officers who caught him and are doing the right thing. Good job RNC - we hope the RCMP would have done the same thing.

    Just watch he will get off with it just like everyother offical - most likly due to lack of evidence fug sakes. Publication ban ! They should post it whereever they can if that was some ordaniry joe it would be.

    The the very thing we tell our kids the police are there to protect you,how can our children respect a police officer or even trust them when they read this in the news paper and watch this on the news,they are not all the same but children learn to mistrust people very early in life.
