Police and other emergency personnel responded to what RCMP described as a serious motor vehicle accident on the Trans-Canada Highway around 5 p.m. today, in the area of the North West Brook Hill near the Hodges Cove intersection.

Clarenville RCMP said two vehicles were involved in the collision, east of Ivany's Cove exit. Traffic was reduced to one lane for almost two hours. The road was reopened shortly before 8 p.m.

Road conditions were very poor at the time with slippery conditions.

The RCMP has been advising people to drive with caution considering weather conditions on the Avalon tonight with snow, followed by freezing rain and rainfall.
